Whare Prizegiving 2024

Our Whare Pono Prizegiving was held on 12th December 

Certificates given out were  - for Excellence in Huarahi, Leadership - School, Whare and Ropu - Huarahi leaders,  Class Awards ( 2 Year 7 and 2 Year 8 each class).  Maths Whizz Green Tick and Attendance Certificates, Principal's - Deputy Principals and Assistant Principals  Awards, Class Councillors and certificates for those who helped with Garden to Table Maara Kai, there Lawn Care team and  our Year 8's all got Leaving Certificates.

Kelani not only co-hosted the Prizeging as one of our Pono School Leaders - she also received many well deserved awards/

Room 10's Class Merit Awards were presented  to: Year 7 - Levi Shaw and Blake Creigh Smith                                                                                                Year 8 - Temali Tausinga and Braxton Smith

Other major awards received were:

                            A special award was given to Noah Martin - The Bunnings Award ! 

Noah sees a job needs doing and he says 'I can fix that ... and he does. First up this year was when my laminator got jammed and I thought it was beyond repair - with some help from his friends, he soon had it working again 

Then when he saw that one of our picnic tables had been graffiti all over it - he took it upon himself to sand it down and paint it. No job is too big or too small for Noah

Epro 8

 For the past few years Ms Stephenson one of our Huarahi teachers,  organises an in school Epro 8 competition. 

'The EPro8 Challenge is the inter-school science and engineering competition.  Every year over 35,000 students from throughout New Zealand take part.

Students participate in a series of events: firstly within their school and then inter-school.  

These events are designed to promote science, engineering and problem solving.'

Sadly Room 10 teams didn't get to compete in the Inter School Competition

Information Reports

 After visiting Maungatuari the class wrote information reports on a chosen native bird or predator:

Success Criteria were shared and Canva was used to present reports written 

Maungatautari 2024

 Te Whare Pono studied our native birds and the importance of keeping Aotearoa predator free,  

To reinforce the learning done in class, all classes visited Maungatautari - Sanctuary Mountain - an amazing place not too far from Tokoroa. 

A big thanks to the great guides we had on our visit—Phil and Sue. Your knowledge of the species, flora, and fauna was extensive, and both the children and accompanying adults learnt so much from you.

It's hard to believe there are 2,500 North Island Brown Kiwi on the mountain,

Speeches

 The annual school Speech Competition was held in Term 3 - another successful year for Room 10.

After class and Whare finals Zoe, Marley, Mana, Niko and Kelani made it to the school finals 

Niko gave his speech on something he his passionate about - going to Waka Taua and how this has impacted his life. 

Kelani was placed first in the Year 8's with her inspiring speech  

We Want a Future

an extract from her speech: 

"How do we as the rising generation deal with problems threatening our future? This is not a new question.

Our great grandmothers' generation dealt with the Great War which killed 22 million people and the deadly Spanish Flu which killed 50 million people worldwide. 

Our Grandmothers generation dealt with the Second World War which killed 75 million people.

Our mothers' generation dealt with the '80s which killed all sense of fashion! "

Zoe, Marley and Mana took part in the Year 7 competition;

Mana presented his speech on his favourite singer Tupac

Zoe spoke about the pros of Farm life and was placed 2nd, and Marley gave a well-prepared informative speech on Gladiators  - earning him 1st place in the Year 7's.
