Information Reports

The last writing done this year was an information report on a spider or insect, this tied in with our Science study on Classification and our reading of non fiction texts on small creatures.

Information reports need to contain the following:
  • an opening statement that starts with a classification.
  • factual information about various aspects of the subject - description, food, life cycle, habitat etc, organised into paragraphs.
  • diagrams and illustrations to add interest to our wtiting.
  • appropriate 'scientific' language.
  • a concluding statement about the topic to finish.

End of Year Newsletter

Lucy and Mya wrote the report for Room 10 to go into our Syndicate Newsletter...

Room 10
Oh my gosh! This year has gone by way too fast! We have had quite a busy term, with speeches, athletic sports, the social, the life ed van and our class EOTC trip.

Life EdπŸ˜€
This term we learnt about our differences and how special and unique we are with Harold the giraffe and Andrea in the Life Ed caravan. The caravan was very stylish and modern and we learn’t quite a lot from it about cyber bullying, peer pressure and our differences.
- I AM UNIQUE! I AM SPECIAL! I MAKE GREAT CHOICES!

SpeechesπŸ“š
Speeches approached very quickly this term! There were speeches on parents, world records, confidence, basketball players, and many more! Three people from Room 10 made it to the Syndicate Finals! We are also very proud of Mya for winning the Year 7 speech competition!

AthleticsπŸ€
Athletics was a great day for all the sporty kids to show off their sporty skills and try and break records that have been there since the 1960’s and upwards. Inter school’s came very fast after school athletics and very soon some of us were on our way to Porritt stadium. We are very proud of all the athletes who participated in this event, we are even more proud of the athletes who tried their hardest and even got a placing (as you may have heard) and our best athlete Izzy (room 10 again)  who got two placings 2nd in Shot put and 3rd in Cricket ball throw

Social πŸŽ‰
On Wednesday we had our school social. We all enjoyed it and had a really good. Best dressed from Room 10 went to Isla Dott and Marley Rawiri Taiki.

Marae🏠

It was soon that time of the year again where the Mārae checklists started getting handed out and the permission slips were being returned! Room 10 was fortunate to stay at Papa O Te Aroha Marae (Our Marae) for 2 nights. We had so much fun and we hope that we can go next year as well.

The  Monday of Week 9 is designated as the  Year 7 Fun Day, in Room 10 this means the annual Christmas Technology Challenge.
Using newspaper, some coloured paper, cellotape, and crepe paper,  a Christmas Tree has to be made and decorated (judged on shape and height), a santa costume created for one group member and  a gift made, wrapped and presented as a verse from a Christmas song is sung.

The afternoon was spent playing Wet Head and Non Stop Cricket

Papa O Te Aroha Marae

The annual Room 10 Marae stay took place on November 22- 24th, during this time the class; took part in a  powhiri to welcome them onto the Marae, helped get the hangi out and had it for dinner, learnt some long and short rakau with Whaea Awhina's daughters - Angel and Ariana, went to Te Awamutu to learn about the early navigators to Aotearoa - New Zealand with the highly entertaining education officer at the Museum and took part in a water safety course at the swimming pools.
They went to the movie Fantastic Beasts and played some 'spotlight' and learnt a lot about the marae and its carvings from Whaea Prue and .... didn't sleep much!
Here are their versions of their time at Papa':
