Planet X
Astronomers insist there is a Planet X four times the size of Earth lurking at the edge of our Solar System...
Room 10 have been creating their versions of what this Planet X might be like:
Lately in class we have been doing Planet X, we had to make An imaginary planet and create it using paper mache,
We had to give facts about our planet, describe how we got to our planet x , design and make up 3 creatures that might live on our planet and best of all we got to name that planet ourselves.
Some of our planets were named:

The Unaccompanied
Planet, Planet Bubble-Gum, Planet NBA
and Planet Beauty.
We did lots of arts and crafts while doing this. My
favourite part of doing planet x was creating our creatures I came up with 3
called, Giggly, Moo and Dave off Despicable Me.
Room 10 enjoy doing Planet X and it was really easy and a
fun way to end the year.

Another Win for Room 10 + lots of trophies
Room 10 have won everything except Ultimate Frisbee and Tug of War ... so today we got a photo of the class and the trophies ... end of year means time for some fun pics too -
but what are James and Cejay up to ?
Room 10's Reading Tutors
Reading Tutors
Room 10 have had amazing reading
tutors this year.
One of them was Di; she loves fashion, nail
polish, hair and gnomes! Di is hilarious and always entertains our class
telling us about her Chooky Farm! Whenever Di visits us her hair is always
different colours.
Our other reading tutor is Mr Read; Every time
he visits he gives us quizzes on France and its history.
We interviewed the people in our
class who went to the Reading Tutors:
The people who went to Di said that she was
funny, cool to read to and Justin and Luke said that they both liked how she
gave everyone a few mints at the end of every reading session.
Hayden went to Mr Read and told us that it is
cool listening to him speak and read and that he always gives him chocolate.
We would like to thank both of
our reading tutors for such an amazing year this year and we hope to see them
again next year!

The Final Social 2013
On Tuesday 3rd December, our school had our last social and of course it was the best, but it was very light and not dark so it made it dumb.
We had lots of fun, and there was great music, more songs of our choice and what we liked. Room 10s best dressed girl was Chloe and best dressed boy was Toso.
It was great fun and was awesome to see everyone out of their uniform. The social was a great way to end the year.

Writing Information Reports
In Written Language, we have been writing information reports on
spiders and insects
We knew we had achieved this when we could:
*Write an opening statement that starts with a classification
*Organise factual information about various aspects of the subject (description, food, lifecycle, habitat etc) into paragraphs
*Use diagrams, and illustrations to add interest to our writing
*Use appropriate ‘scientific’ language
*Finish with a concluding statement about the topic
Here Are some of our finished reports created using Power Point

Extension Technology - Food
For the past 2 terms some kids from our class have been lucky enough
to attend extension ICT, art, materials and cooking every Monday.
In cooking we have lately been doing our foreign food booklets,
which is when you and your partner pick a country each, learn about it and pick
a dish that is made/ significant to that country.
I did Germany, and found out that Germany’s full name is
Federal Republic of Germany and the population is 81.1 million people (in 2011). We
cooked our partners dish one week and ours the next. We also cooked some of Mrs
Duffins recipes from all sorts of places around the world.
We are almost finished making the booklets.
It has been awesome learning those extra cooking skills with Mrs Duffin and we are glad we still have many more weeks at extension cooking!

The Notice Board
Last week Shauna, Madison and I decided to write a letter to our Principal, Mr Thompson. We wrote about the notice board by the hall that's never updated, the letter simply asked if we could take responsibility to update it weekly and that the board needed it.
After a few days of waiting anxiously, Mr Thompson got back to us. He thanked us for using our initiative and said it was a great idea.We presented our ideas to the school during Friday Assembly.
On Monday 4 November Madiscon got some colourful borders and I went and printed off newsletters and notices. I also printed off some photos from the recent Ki O Rahi Tournament to show people who didn't attend.
We are enjoying being in charge of the noticeboard.

Ki O Rahi @ Nga Taonga Takaro Tournament 2013
On the 29th of October 4 teams from Tokoroa
Intermediate School went down to the sports ground to play the traditional
Maori game Ki-o-Rahi at the annual Nga Taonga Takaro tournament.
The day started out with a performance from most schools
competing Tainui, Amisfield, North School, Strathmore Bishop Edward Gaines
David Henry and ourselves.
We performed the school haka lead by Jahkay and myself and I
may be biased but I think we had the best performance there. After that we were
underway with the tournament, we brought two year 7 teams and two year 8 teams
competing, my team found most games easy unless it was against our own school.
All teams played about 5 games in the intermediate section 3
of our teams moved on to the semi-finals and 1 Amisfield team.
Year 7 Room 10’s team ( and
Shauna) beat Amisfield and last
years Room 10 team with the help from Curacao, Judas and Carson beat the other
Year 7 team.
So it was old ( Year 7) vs new (Year 8) in the finals and it
was intense especially as the year 7 team had beaten us in pool play earlier.
The ball was moving so fast I could barely keep up with it
and I was only watching from the tupu.
When the final whistle blew we knew that the year 8’s had
won.
We performed our haka again this time lead solo by me and we
then collected our trophy and went back to the gazebo to get ready to go home.
For the 3rd year in a Row Tokoroa Intermediate
has won the Intermediate age division, Out of 4 teams playing, we had 3
placings 1st, 2nd, 3rd= We were very greatful
to Hamish Allen for setting up his gazebo and giving the year 8’s tips to beat
the year 7’s.
