Our guest speaker was Eva Hakansson, who with her husband owns a business new to Tokoroa - KiwiFil.                                                                                                                      Find out more about Kiwifil here

Eva is a truly remarkable woman, she told her life story and shared her amazing achievements with the school. Her racing vehicle the Killajoule' was until very recently the world's fastest electric motorcycle at 434 km/h  (270mph) with Eva as the rider.

Athletics Sports and Sports Prizegiving

 The SPORTS Prizegiving was held on Friday, December 13. Our guest speakers were from the local Gym, Muscle and Curves Fitness Centre: Thelma Kerr and Nicole Bartie. Both were former TIS pupils who gave inspirational messages.


Room 10's who received awards were: 

Azlan Paora - Year 7 Junior Boys Cross Country Champion                                                                       

Zoe Luxford - Year 7 Junior Girls Athletics Champion

Maitland McCurran Cup - Most Dedicated Netball Player - Swavay Gage 

Kieran Cantwell Memorial Cup - Endeavour in Sport - Teinakore Ford-Takiri

Our school Athletic Sports were held in November - lots of success especially in field events 

Zoe was the 2024 Junior Girls Champion 
   1st Shot Put and 1st Cricketball Throw 


Mana 2nd Junior Boys Champion  - 1st Discus and Shot Put
 


Kelani 1st Discus  and Shot Put, 3rd Cricket Ball Throw  = 2nd Senior Girls Champion   
Braxton 1st Cricket Ball Throw,    Swavay 1st 100m,    Azlan 2nd High Jump, Teinakore 3rd Shot Put
Marley  Cricket Ball Throw        Noah H 4th  Cricket Ball Throw     


Zoe and Mana went on to represent the school and have success at  WIMS (Waikato Intermediate Middle Schools)Athletics held  at Porritt Stadium,
Mana was 1st in the Junior Boys Shot Put.
Zoe placed in the Junior Girls-  3rd in Discus and 4th at Shot Put, 




 


Whare Prizegiving 2024

Our Whare Pono Prizegiving was held on 12th December 
Certificates given out were  - for Excellence in Huarahi, Leadership - School, Whare and Ropu - Huarahi leaders,  Class Awards ( 2 Year 7 and 2 Year 8 each class).  Maths Whizz Green Tick and Attendance Certificates, Principal's - Deputy Principals and Assistant Principals  Awards, Class Councillors and certificates for those who helped with Garden to Table Maara Kai, there Lawn Care team and  our Year 8's all got Leaving Certificates.

Kelani not only co-hosted the Prizeging as one of our Pono School Leaders - she also received many well deserved awards/

                            A special award was given to Noah Martin - The Bunnings Award ! 

Noah sees a job needs doing and he says 'I can fix that ... and he does. First up this year was when my laminator got jammed and I thought it was beyond repair - with some help from his friends, he soon had it working again 
Then when he saw that one of our picnic tables had been graffiti all over it - he took it upon himself to sand it down and paint it. No job is too big or too small for Noah









Epro 8

 For the past few years Ms Stephenson one of our Huarahi teachers,  organises an in school Epro 8 competition. 

'The EPro8 Challenge is the inter-school science and engineering competition.  Every year over 35,000 students from throughout New Zealand take part.
Students participate in a series of events: firstly within their school and then inter-school.  
These events are designed to promote science, engineering and problem solving.'

Sadly Room 10 teams didn't get to compete in the Inter School Competition






Nadia and Ina - May's Journals on their trip to China, and the class created new book covers

 

The class read a variety of Nitty Gritty novels by the well known New Zealand author Stu Duval, at the end of their novel studies, they were challenged to create new covers for the texts read.using Canva ..
