Danielle had a great prizegiving and received lots of certificates, she also was awarded the Senior Girls Cross Country Cup, and the Robertson Cup for Sportsmanship. She was named Proxime Accessit ( 2nd brainiest!!) and then got the top award - Te Tino Tangata for General Excellence.

I woke up and had a shower and then got dressed. Then we left to meet Isobel in Hamilton. When we got to the hospital we went to see my dad. Then we met Isobel at the hospital. My mum helped her pack the suitcase into her car.

Then we left for homai. We were not very late but we had holdups with roadworks. Isobel had to take an alcohol driving test. Then we entered homai it was very big and we had to get directions to the emersion classroom. When we got to the emersion classroom we got to learn more about each other.

Then we had morning tea in the pohutakawa room I had a box of juice and a packet of chips.

When everyone had finished morning tea we went back to the classroom. We were given time tables of what we will be doing. We all read a page of the time table I was not very nervous. I was told I was a very good reader when I was told that I felt very happy.

Then we had lunch and I enjoyed it. Then we had free time.

Yesterday Room 10 walked to Raukawa to have a shared lunch and watch our Ki O Rahi legend that we had filmed during our time at Papa O Te Aroha. It didn’t take long to get there but it was really hot.

When we arrived there KC and Nicole had already prepared our lunch. It was a nice healthy lunch and we watched the opening of the Ki O Rahi tournament while we ate. After that we watched the finished version of the Ki O Rahi legend. I was very happy about how it turned out. It looked far better than I had imagined and the audience might now get a better understanding of what it’s about and how the game started.

Di - Our Reading Tutor

Di is Room 10’s Reading Tutor. Di is a little short person and when she comes into class, she always talks about Zumba, she has lots of fun at Zumba

We are supposed to read with Di, mostly we don’t read we talk aloud I really enjoy reading or talking to Di – she makes me laugh a lot!

Waikato Intermediate Athletics - Porritt Stadium, Hamilton

On Tuesday our athletics team travelled to Hamilton by bus to compete in the Waikato inter intermediate competition at Porritt Stadium.

The Ki O Rahi Legend

Wow! I thought as I saw Tim Monga-Pita bring in all the cameras in. It felt like I was a star about to shoot a movie. I saw the huge microphone Jonas and I had to use. It was as tall as me. KC said you had to be silent because it could pick up the slightest whisper.

We were filming the Ki O Rahi legend, and I was extremely nervous. Everyone was so quite you could hear a pin drop. “set and ACTION,” she would repeat over and over until we got it right. I was rather exhausted after all the takes we did. But I shouldn’t complain, the actors had to do the hard work. Hopefully this is the last one I kept thinking to myself. ”ohh I sighed as she said” one more,” about five more times.Now I know what Hollywood star have to go I thought , making 1 to 2 hour movies only ours is about 20 minutes.

”Cut! “She called. I honestly could have dropped to the ground with relief.

Memoirs

Room 10 students have been writing a Memoir - about an event / time in their life. A good memoir needs a 'hook' at the beginning - one that will make the reader want to read on. Here are some of the 'hooks' written:

My heart was beating at a million beats per second. “BANG” I heard the gun shot. The pig ran I thought he had missed, and then all of a sudden the pig did a big forward flip and that’s when I knew it was dead.

We jumped in the truck and zoomed down to the pig, we leapt out and stuck it just in case it was faking its own death. We gutted it threw the guts in the bush and the pig on the back of the truck and had our victory drink. David.

Where is she going? Why is she leaving me?

I cried as my Mum left through the gate and waved good-bye as she drove away. It was my first day at Paronui kindergarten and I was already feeling nervous.
I cried and cried until I had no more tears. Mrs Blackmore, one of the kindergarten teachers tried to calm me down and took me outside to play and interact with the other children. I looked around and saw everyone having so much fun. Iva

“Come on Dad faster” I yelled

“Ok,” he replied as he pushed down the throttle vroom we zoomed off like we were in a V8 motor boat race.

“ahhh” I yelled as Dad drove straight into the other boats wake water splashed up on my face, the biscuit flipped I knew I was off because I was practically upside down. The water was so cold I was turning blue. Jack

“I hate you,” I yelled at three other kids. Their eyes opened wide like a big huge hole.

Then suddenly I started to swear at them. “Beep you” I screamed. Bad words started flying out of my mouth. I heard footsteps behind me but that didn’t worry me. My bad words were still coming out. I felt a tap on my shoulder it was a teacher my heart dropped and those three other kids started to laugh at me. I wished I hadn’t done that I thought to myself.

She took me in my class room and she put me on the naughty mat let me tell you something sitting on the naughty mat isn’t cool. About fifteen minutes later I was allowed off the naughty but i had to draw with the teacher there were other kids drawing too. I was looking out the window and watching all the other kids play I learnt that swearing isn’t cool “I wish I was outside playing” the teacher turned on the radio it was my favourite song Hey Baby. Everybody was singing and dancing so I joined in. we had building blocks pretending we were singers. I stopped singing because I saw those three boys walking through the door. I couldn't help myself, I poked the tongue at them so they poked it back at me.

The teacher said “that’s enough” I just ignored her. She yelled “stop it” and she put me and the three other kids on the naughty mat. I feel so angry I just had to say the last word it was ” beep you…”

“Oh No” I said in my mind.

From the back of the hall all the way to the front, all I could see were parents and children. A whole hall was just full of audience. Ears were switched on and eyes were just staring, ready for speeches to be heard from us finalists.

I thought I was dreaming but this was life. I could fell my heart beating Boom! Boom! Boom! and butterflies beginning to rise in my tummy. My body from top to bottom was shaking like an earthquake and felt like I was going to be frozen stiff any second.

My luck was in, I wasn’t first (whewwwww) but my turn was on its way shortly. I just memorized my speech in my mind but I had this really bad feeling that I was going to muck up and I was really was hoping that was not going to happen.

It wasn’t so long until the girl in front of me was just coming to the last bit of her speech. OH! No I mumbled to myself please don’t finish too soon. She was making her way back to the seat that she started from. I felt like a little hedgehog crouched up in a little hole afraid to walk up and begin my speech. I felt this girl’s fingertip it was my turn. I stood up not proud but really NERVOUS! . Heads turned around and eyes were staring at me. “Matamaru' got called out by Mr Robson.

I didn’t want to make a big fuss about it I just made my way up to the front of the school hall with eyes just staring at me ….. Words just started coming out of my mouth, I couldn’t help it and I just couldn’t stop. It wasn’t too bad at all to say a simple speech with all of those eyes staring at you

“NOOOO!” I scream then I let off a cry, “oh s…!” I try to stamp it out but it is not working.

I don’t know what to do. I m confused. Oh no, what did I just do?

I stare at the fire. The fire stares back. I can feel my heart pounding against my chest. I’m like a lost sheep.

Then I just run as fast as my feet can go. I jump the drain and propel myself over the stream, but not enough. I land in the water, then zoom up the hill like a human with V8 horse power. I fly over the fence, skipping stairs.

I reach the door and the split second I walk inside, Mum says “have you been lighting fires again my boy?”

I shrink in to my chair. Why won’t the floor open up and swallow me?

“No…why would you say that?” I wimp.

“No reason…but you do smell like smoke,” she replies

Then smoke suddenly drifts past the window. I get up and close the curtain and then shrink back down in the chair and think back…………

“Hey Christian” a boy says.

“What?” I say

“I’ll give you 3 dollars if you light that bush on fire” and he throws a lighter towards me…I was never going to do it.

“Naaaa” I reply.

“Oh come I’ll just keep my 3 dollars then” says the boy.

I really wanted 3 dollars. I pick up the lighter and light it.

“Yeee you owe me 3 dollars”

My Dad finally announced that we were moving I was really surprised. It felt like the worst day of my life when I found out that we were moving to Tokoroa.

I thought my heart would break in half because I always looked as Tok as a holiday place not somewhere to live. Then I realized what I was leaving behind all my friends, my house, my school, all my teachers, living close to Rainbows End and the malls but most of all leaving Pukekohe. It was a hassle moving because moving meant packing and packing meant it would take forever and it was boring.

Eventually I got everything packed up and into boxes already to go into the moving vans. I wasn’t really pumped on moving because I knew what I was leaving behind. My Dad left the day before with my two little brothers and sister so they could get the house all prepared. That only left Mum and I to clean up the rest of the house, luckily my mum called up her friend to come help us clean up the house. I was relieved because I really couldn’t be bothered cleaning up the bedrooms and the bathroom.

Once we finished cleaning up and mum finished her crying session over leaving the house and her best friend. We braced ourselves big journey ahead of us. When I took a last look at my house it reminded me of a great big, empty box.

But now I’m here I don’t think it was the worst day of my life I think it was one of the best moves my Mum and Dad have ever made for us. Shaquille

But did you know?

The chatter ring refers to a type of skill toy. A standard chatter ring is composed of five brass beads strung onto a stainless steel ring. Activate the beads by flicking them and then to maintain their on-going activity by turning the main ring as the beads continue to spin. The objective of playing the chatter ring is to perform moves from large range of tricks, which become more and more difficult.The Chatter Ring was produced in 1996, in Hastings, New Zealand. We welcomed our new Principal

On the 25th of October Tokoroa Intermediate School welcomed our new principal Mr Thompson. First Mr Fisher spoke and he got the school to give 3 cheers for the All Blacks winning the Rugby World Cup. Then we had the kapa haka group and the Poly group welcome Mr Thompson and his wife to our school

The Poly Group got some teachers and Mr Thompson up on stage for ‘Round the World’.

Mr Puke and Auntie Amy also came to welcome him. Mr Puke is from the B.O.T and he said a few words to Mr Thompson. Auntie Amy sang a song.

Mr Thompson then said some words to everyone in Maori . Then we finished off with the whole school singing some songs. We think Mr Thompson is going to be a great Principal.

Today the Syndicate Speech Finals were held, 3 people from each class were selected to take part. Everyone in Room 10 worked hard on their speeches - special mention has to go to Brayden, Karine and Kody James for the great little speeches they gave, and to Lucky and Matamaru for making us laugh!
Shaneya, Iva and Christian represented the class in our Syndicate Finals and .... Christian was selected to go through to the School Finals next week!

Life Education

This term in room 10 Mrs Puke and the class have been visiting Harold and Shelly from the Life Education van. We have been learning about choices and how they influence us. When we first went to Harold we were excited because it’s been ages since we have last seen Harold in our primary schools.

At our first lesson we played a game which was very entertaining personally I stuck to FIJI, There were three places where we could go: Fiji, Los Angeles and North Island ( Wellington) First we had to pick where we wanted to go the most BUT there was consequences depending on where you went, Most of our class decided to go to Los Angeles with Shelly and Mrs Puke, BUT in the end we found out it was only a game.

We made a burger with the Choices, Consequences as tomatoes, Influences as the meat patty and lastly Information as the lettuce. At our second lesson we learnt about the long term consequences of smoking and annorexia. At our third and last session we learnt about how smoking and drinking alcohol affects our body.

Sadly we have to wait till next year to see Harold and Shelly again L L L L…

Year 7 Rugby Final

As the All Blacks took the field in the weekend wanting to smash France Room 10 were thinking the same as we took on Room 12 in our rugby interclass final.

We all set out to win but I think we all set our own goal to take down the mighty Seu.

We even tried to play like the all blacks with our Sonny Bill Williams off loads (David) Riche McCaws tackling(Christian & Jonas) and Cory Janes speed and running (Lorenzo,Ben,Shaq,Lucky).At least some of these moves must have worked because we were leading at half time.

Kody James today remembered to release the ball and didnt get penalised,well not for that anyway.

Shaneya had a great running and tackling game scoring 2 tries and good back up support from her mate Kowhai.

We were lucky to win with an awesome score of 9 to 1 to us. We did have to watch out for their danger players Seu with his mean run ups/ Shazier with his stepping style and Brayden with his good leader ship.

Great Final game Room 12 it has been fun playing rugby at lunchtime with a proper ref. Thank you Mr Hopkinson for missing out on your lunch to come and ref us all, if it wasn't for you we couldn't take the field.

Thanks Mrs Puke for supplying mouthguards for those who forgot and Fisher for being as loud as a crowd even though there is only 1 of you.

Interclass Rugby

We have all been watching the rugby world cup games that are happening around New Zealand but for today we were all focused on our own interclass rugby game.Hearty Room 10 took on the fancy footed Room 16. We took the field wanting to win to stay undefeated in the comp so far.

The first half saw us take the lead with our great tackling (shot Room 10 boys),good run up's and passing – though I admit I'm not the best at sharing the ball.

This carried on into the second half but it definitely was more challenging for us.David Dewar came across to Tok Intermediate just in time being the best try saver of the game, shot D! Jonas Jonah Lomu is proving to be our key weapon charging through the opposition every game.Thanks to our courageous girls who played, if it wasn't for them we would not have a team to take the field.

We still have a few things to work on. Playing today we had a slight problem with Kody James not knowing when to release the ball. When he was on the ground he kept getting penalised for not letting the ball go.Hopefully he will remember to let the ball go next time but more importantly great running Kody!

Tyler Riki-Pahewa and Christian Manual were danger players for room 16 with very good skills and Tyler being the only try-scorer of the game for them.

Final score 7 to 1 to us!

When we had folk dancing. Mrs Long was our tutor she taught us the chicken dance at first and then the bunny hop. We really enjoyed the chicken dance because it allows you to make a complete fool out of yourself while you’re enjoying it. When we learnt the bunny hop everyone was laughing because if your leader wasn’t that co-ordinated the whole group would stuff it up. Then we learnt the German clap dance it was my favourite because you got to dance with a number of different people. Next to learn was the Csebogar We had a good time learning this it was completely hilarious to the boys and even more so to the girls, We all threw our legs up when we went into the center J It was awesome!!

Adventure Narratives

Room 10 have been writing adventure narratives. As we read adventures texts last term we knew what a good adventure narrative needed: fast paced action and heroic deeds.
We also tried to include similes and some onomatopoeia in our writing to make it more interesting.

Here are some extracts from our narratives:

Kody had lit a forest fire that quickly ate everything in its path. Soon Kody was surrounded by a vicious ring of fire. It started to close in on him, he could only stand and stare in the face of death but he wasn’t going to die today. No he was going to survive. I had to act quickly if he was going to live. If this was a movie I would jump in and get him out without a scratch on me. But this wasn’t a movie this was reality. Without thinking I jumped in it was just luck that I didn’t get burnt going in. With all my strength I pushed Kody out and then everything started to go dark I jumped out and then blacked out. Demosson

I just kept walking the way I thought I came from. I walked back then I started to panic, so I began to run, then sprinted. I was running and before I knew it I ran into a solid pine tree and rebounded and fall into some blackberry bushes. OUCH! ...

Us boys then put the hangi down. We waited for 8 hours for the hangi to be cooked. Unfortunately when I got the covers off it and we pulled the basket out, it was hot and it dropped on my foot, which burnt right through my shoe. I asked Shaq to take the basket in for me because I needed to go and get my foot checked at the hospital. At the hospital the nurses said I was fine to go. Sweet!

I then drove to the Ware – Whare to get me some shoes but they were too poor. So I went to Morrissey’s to where the flash shoes were at. My shoe problem was solved; I could go back to Christian’s party. Lucky

“I’m so bored,” Kate groaned. It was the 3^rd week of the school holidays and she hadn’t seen one of her friends! Her parents had taken her to a batch by the sea in Cambridge, with no internet connection! Radio stations! Or any cell phone reception. It was hell on earth for a teenage girl. She twirled her brown hair but eventually gave up and looked outside to be disappointed by rain. Then she searched the bookshelves finding Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix. “Dad have I reed this one yet,” she asked. Her dad looked back from his paper-work “I don’t know honey,” he replied. Kate trudged her way upstairs and slammed the door. She jumped onto her bed which made it shudder underneath her.

AGHHHHHH! Screamed a couple of kids that were caught in a rip Jase ran to the end of the wharf and shouted “Moana go get help!” He could feel adrenaline pumping through his body. He knew he had to do something. He shouted, “Don’t worry help is on its way!”. He found a board floating in the water and grabbed a branch not far from the wharf and got into the water. The rip’s current carried him towards the children. He reached out to get them but he lost his balance. Luckily he got back on with the three children tugging onto his clothes. Finally the lifeguards showed up and were able to pull them up to safety. Iva

In the middle of the night, dogs were howling and the wind was making the trees sway side to side.

So Dad went outside to see what it was he took his torch and went into the pitch black forest. The children all reacted, they were frightened and worried. They watched their dad leave but then Sarah cried because she was thinking about what it was and what it might do to her Dad, she might not see her dad again. Kowhai

It was a week into the school holidays and Bobs mum had organised a trip to the woods Bob invited some friends; their names were Sandy and Richard. They were going to go camping. As they were in the car they were singing a school song it was called’ Musical Demons’. They sang that song until their voices cracked.

They arrived in the woods and Bobs mum slowed down her driving just in case she crashed. The kids also quietened down their singing. They all looked out their windows and saw a cottage nearby their camping site. Everyone stopped what they were doing besides Mum she kept on driving.

“Wow!” whispered Sandy “that’s an awesome house”. Shaneya

On Marie’s farm there was a forest. There used to be a path through it but 3 days ago there had been a storm and now the path was covered in mud and leaves. Marie thought that she knew the path off by heart. I was hoping that nothing would happen while we were in the forest because I wouldn’t know the way back.

About half an hour into our walk we came across a wolf. It was golden brown with evil black eyes. It made a horrible growling noise. Then all of a sudden it pounced at us but we started sprinting back to Marie’s house. It felt like I was running as fast as a cheetah. Marie yelled “IT’S CATCHING UP!!” then just as she finished that sentence; the wolf jerked Marie away from me... Josie

I gulped and shouted, “did any one bring a compass?” Sadly no one did from there on we were lost. Ben suggested we should carry on with the hunt then will try to find our way out of here. After everyone had their moans and groans we came to a reasonable agreement. We all kept walking and walking, our legs were tired they felt like wobbly jelly. Half an hour later we heard trees rustling it sounded like they were whispering to each other ...

Johnny snapped and sprinted out of the cave while this mean old wicked, ghost flew into the air, she was ugly with pimples and hairs all over her face, she also had grey and black hair.

I quickly threw the moonstones on the hard concrete ground and CRASH! they smashed into a million pieces. The ghost witch screamed, “AHHHHHH” and vanished.

I picked up a souvenir and screamed “VICTORY IS OURS”. Lukah

Shaquille and Lorenzo had advanced to the finals which meant they were going to fight each other. Then all of a sudden, there was a clap of thunder above and a white light appeared in the sky, it started moving towards them, slowly covering everything within eyesight.

The light finally got to them and they could hear someone’s voice: “Lunch is ready”, then again, “Hurry up boys, lunch is ready!”

“Who was that?” Shaquille asked Lorenzo.

“I dunno” said Lorenzo.

The yellow light enveloped them, they both felt warm and a bit tired and just closed their eyes for a second. A big BANG noise woke them up. They were back in the bathroom, and Mum was standing there in the doorway “Come on guys, gee I’ve been calling you for lunch for ages”.

“How weird was that?” Lorenzo said. He and Shaquille high-fived each other and laughed on their way to the kitchen to grab their lunch.“I think we’ve played inside enough today, aye” Shaquille suggested. Jonas

Finally the weekend has arrived, “Rotoma here we come”. We launched the boat, Jack, Dad and I head across the lake. As we hit the five knot buoy, Dad cut the throttle and headed into the flooded jetty. Dad says, “Tie her up Jack”. I jump out and tie the boat to the pole; little did we know what was ahead of us.

We ran up the track with our heavy back packs and our hands full of shopping bags. Jack and I got the job of lighting the outdoor camp fire “Yum” bacon butties for smoko. Now the adventure began Jack and I head down the back track, past the long drop and through the gate.

“I think we're on a pirate ship” Joy said amazed. The pirate ship looked very old. It had bits of wood that looked like they had been pulled out and its sail has been ripped. “It doesn’t look like there are many people around,” Nicole said as she looked around the ship. Just then a pirate appeared and he walked up to us. He had a pirate hat on, a parrot on his shoulder and baggy pants that looked really funny on him. “I’m Black Beard what are you doing on my ship?” he said evily

“We don’t know how we got here, we just want to go home,” we said to Black Beard. Logan

I got out of bed. It was a sunny and good day for fishing here in Tokoroa.I got the rods and blew up the inflatable dingy. I went to New World to pick up the bait, then to Lucky’s place. He was helping his dad on the trailer. After picking up Ben we headed to the Waikato River. We used Lucky’s dads fifty ninth trailer to carry the dingy. At low tide we set sail next to the sightseeing car park.

Three minutes later Lucky growled “there’s no fish”. He was right; the river was as empty as my dog Jacks bowl

Then suddenly Ben’s reel started spinning like crazy,“I’ve got a big one” said Ben as he went to reel it in.

Lucky yelled “it’s not a fish it’s a shark” ...

Then suddenly the boat tipped forward…BOOOM…I plunged head first into the water. I could feel the bottom of the river. I saw Jermaine sinking lower and lower.

I tried to call out to Jermaine, but the only thing that came out were bubbles and more bubbles ‘Jermaine Jermaine” I shrieked then I remembered ‘air air I need air”. I try to swim up. I don’t even know what I am doing, it is not a swimming technique but it is fast. I am nearly at the surface and Im thinking ….nearly there…come on…..just a little more then…

“Breathe, breathe” cried Lucky as he punched my chest.

“HHHHUUUU,” I spluttered as I coughed the water out of my lungs

‘Dammit Lucky” I coughed some more water out “I told you not to buy those Warehouse life jackets”.

“What …they were on special $ 2 a jacket!” said Lucky as he stomped into the bush

“That is why they didn’t work” I shouted but he had already disappeared.

Interclass Rugby vs Room 18

Today Room 10’s rugby team went down to the bottom field and played rugby against Room 18. We had 3 girls and 10 boys it was supposed to be 10 aside. Room 18 only had 6 players so we could only field 6 players at a time. Everyone had a game and Room 10 said to each other “this game is too easy” but then they got their only try of the day and everyone was annoyed at each other because he/she let him through.

The boys had the ball mostly all the time but sometimes gave it to the girls. Kowhai scored a great try but it was disallowed and Shaneya got a ‘pretty much runaway try.' Room 10 won 15 tries to 1.

Room 10 had a good time playing rugby but they want to play a class a bit more challenging like Room 16.

Kapa Haka noho marae

On Friday night the Kapa Haka group went to the Papa o Te Aroha marae, to get ready for the Polynesian Festival.

First we had a powhiri. We had to wear black. The girls were in the front and the boys were at the back. A lady welcomed us on to the marae. Whaea Awhina replied back. We sat in the marae and listened to a matua do his speech, when he finished him and two other ladies sang a song. Mr O`Rouke replied back and we did our moteatea called Kangangahu. We all went around and kissed or hongied the hosts of the marae. We had a 5 minute break just to get out of our powhiri clothes and get changed into our P.Js. We went straight into practice. We had dinner and then supper and went to sleep. The boys slept on the left hand side and the girls slept on the right.

On Saturday we all woke up and had a shower and then went straight into practise. Had breakfast and then went for more practises. After practising we went to the pools and stayed there until 3:00pm. Anton suggested that we do some skits just for fun. We all finished creating our skits but we weren’t allowed to do them because we had to have a dress rehearsal. Many of our parents and some teachers came to watch us. After we finished our rehearsal we had some supper. We all went for a shower then had a MEAN pillow fight, but we had to go to bed because we were too loud. LOL!

On Sunday all we did was clean the marae and pack our stuff and wait for our parents to come.

It was a fun noho, the best we had ever had J

On Monday, 29^th August the whole school community was involved in a Cup Cake Day to raise money for our local SPCA. Staff of Tokoroa Intermediate either donated ingredients or backed cupcakes and a lot of students baked as well. The outcome was amazing with some wonderful and colourful cupcake creations. We sold approximately 800 cupcakes to students and staff and raised $589 for the SPCA. Thank you everyone who supported this worthwhile course by donating, baking and/or buying cupcakes. And they didn’t only look nice they were yummy too!

Today is the day it snowed in Tokoroa!!

Today at 9:30am we had snow. All the classes came out to play in the snow.

It doesn't snow very much in Tokoroa so this was cool for us.

Some of us haven't experienced the feeling of snow before.

On Thursday the school had a special assembly to farewell our Principal Mr Straw who is leaving us to go and be Principal of a school in Pakistan.The Kapa Haka group performed for him then Mr Fisher and some of the House Captains spoke about what Mr Straw meant to them and our school.

Significant Day presentations

At the end of term 2 we started doing work on significant days. We had to do a presentation to the class on the significant day we chose.
We had some people doing Matariki, Guy Fawkes, Christmas, Mardi Gras, Valentines Day, Easter and many more. Some of us worked in pairs and some of us worked alone. We could do it as a power point,on a chart or using the inter write.

On Tuesday the 2 August room 10 faced room 9 in inter class netball. Room 10 had to bring together a team of 7 including boys. It was a fun game and most subs went on. At the end the day the score was 17- 13 with a win for room 10. The players that were on were mostly boys. The boys played an awesome game for their first time playing but some got pulled up by the refs too much. The player of the day was Shaneya Ihaka with her fantastic shooting and Lucky Uerata with his great passes and centre position.

KC Maaka, our local Raukawa iwi Health Promoter returned to Room 10 today, she talked about Matariki and read the class the Legend of Rahitutakahina. It was pretty interesting, it includes a taniwha, the giant eagle Namu and patupaiarehe. KC is going to work with our class next term to dramatise this legend... that'll be a challenge for us!
She also taught us another game Rakau Tuu, this required a lot of concentration and quick reflexes. Jemaine was the best in the finals!

We have to write an information report about a significant day we chose like St Patricks Day , Valentines Day and Christmas..... and we are going to have to create a digital presentation to give to the class on our chosen day too

In Assembly on Thursday The Brass Band played some National Anthems to the whole school. Sadly there is no one from our class in the band, it is taken by Mr Noel Saunders, he has been taking the band for many, many years. It costs nothing to join and you even get supplied with an instrument.
The anthems played were:
God Defend New Zealand (NZ)
God Save the Queen (UK)
The Banner of Freedom (Samoa)
Advance Australia Fair (Australia)
The Star-Spangled Banner (USA)
one from the Netherlands
La Marseillasie (France)
All these Countries are participating in the Rugby World Cup.( I think they did a very good job.(Collette)

Mr Saunders and the Brass Band

Yesterday at Singing Assembly, we had Whaea Awhina teach us some new maori songs because it was Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori Maori Language Week. We learnt Wairua o te Puna and He Kakano.

Over the last week Room 10 have had Constable Louise in talking lessons about bullying- Kia Kaha. Today we learnt about stereotyping people.

This Friday Was Muffi Day. It was for the Blind Appeal so we had to dress up colourful.We all brought $2 to donate to the Blind Appeal so that they can buy things like canes, Pac mates and Braille machines to help people who are blind.
This is something Room 10 has a good understanding about because our Michael is blind, he has a cane which he uses to help him find his way around - he is really good at getting around our school now and he has a pac mate to help him do his school work with.

In Assembly today our Guest Speaker was a former pupil of our school- Cameron Petley. He used to be in Freyberg House!
He talked to us about his recent appearance on TV's Master Chef programme. He also donated a cook book from the show to our school library.

On Friday afternoons we have begun improving our knowledge of Te Reo Maori, we have varying degrees of knowledge and understanding of Te Reo, but we are all following a programme called Ka Mau Te Wehi.This week we learnt the correct greeting for good morning - ata mārie , we did some role plays to practice this. These are 2 of our videos.

On Wednesday 8 June Room 10 went over to the Te Awamutu Museum to find out about a significant celebration in New Zealand - MATARIKI.
Alan the Museum's Education Officer taught us how to make traditional manu tukutuku (kites) - thats Alan in the post below!
We used raupo, toetoe and harakeke to make them, they are now all hanging up in our classroom. One windy day we'll try flying some of them.
After lunch in the Memorial Park( and a game of bullrush!) we then learnt about traditional ways of gathering food and had a puzzle in the Museum to solve.

Creative Information Reports and Our Special Reading Tutor

Tokoroa Intermediate is lucky enough to have members of our community who volunteer to come into school once a week to help children with their reading. Room 10 has Mr Blair and .... Di.
Di or Mrs Bell as she is sometimes known, keeps us entertained- she goes to Zumba and each week she shares some of her moves with us.
We are very grateful to Mr Blair and Di for giving up their time to help some of Room 10 with their reading.

On Fridays some of us have been writing creative information reports on a creature we ' discovered' on our Survival Islands. We published these using pwer point.
